ESTANDARIZACION DE LAS TASAS DE CAPTURA DE RECURSOS PELAGICOS DE LA ZONA NORTE DE CHILEDOI: 10.4067/S0717-65382005000200011 Keywords: standardization, cpue, pelagic fish, mlg, interactions, northern of chile. Abstract: we used generalized linear model for the standardization of the catch per unit effort (cpue) as an index of relative abundance. the analysis was performed for anchovy (engraulis ringens), sardine (sardinops sagax) and jack mackerel (trachurus murphyi) in northern chile (18o21-24os) for the period 1987 through 1997. for anchovy we considered the following independent variables: ship hold capacity, fishing areas, lunar phase, season, year and sea surface temperature (sst). for sardine and jack mackerel we considered ship hold capacity, fishing areas, lunar phase, season and year. these variables individually have a significant effect on the cpue logarithms. for anchovy we identified a significant interaction between season*year, season*area, year*area, year*sst and area*sst. for sardine and jack mackerel we identified a significant interaction between season*year, season*area and year*area. in conclusion, approximately 32%, 33% y 30% of the total variation observed for the logarithms of cpue was explained by the models. this expecting result is mainly due to the random nature of the fishery when used daily information of the fishery and secondary to the no incorporate of other significant variables in the models
