the text is a criticism to the contemporary theories that proclaim the incomparability of "civilizing projects" in the third world, due to the existence of a wide and deep cultural diversity which would make it impossible to find a historical "meta-criteria", from which positive and negative aspects could be judged. as a matter of fact, this would imply that many authoritarian aspects of many socio-cultural governments would be omitted. examples of the islamic world and andean regions in south american are analyzed.
