Abstract: the purpose of this paper is to analyze the views that elementary and high school teachers construct about the students? capacities for learning and the possibilities that students could have in future employment, considering their social and economical level. the answers given by teachers of four schools located in two rural areas on the south side of the santa fe province, argentina, were analyzed. in these places, several transnational corporations related to auto parts manufacturing, soybeans storage and transportation and electrical energy production have been established. it can be concluded that the teachers? views, the fact that the student belongs to the middle class, the support of their families and the continuity of their education once they have finished high school are essential factors for the learning process and the employability of the students in the future.
