Abstract: in the garment industry, the strategies used by transnational corporations of relocating toward peripheral countries and, especially, toward rural areas can be clearly observed. their purpose is to increase profits at the expense of the workers. research was conducted in two rural municipalities in the state of puebla. forty (40) people were interviewed in order to analyze the conditions for workers in industrial assembly plants, workshops, and home workshops. results indicate that the workers are young with an educational level above elementary school. working conditions in the three types of assembly plants are inadequate, but there are better wages and social benefits in the industrial version. conclusions are that flexible work schedules in rural areas keep the workers unprotected in terms of their labor rights.
