Abstract: this article deals with the existing relationship between democracy and the constitution, looking at human rights and the full exercise of citizenship by women. the study takes the constitution of the bolivarian republic of venezuela as a normative reference in a society that has defined itself as democratic, participative, protagonistic, multiethnic and pluricultural, almost eight years after the constitutional text came into effect, a text considered the most advanced in america on the subject of human rights for women. from the analysis, conclusions were that it is not possible to build a democratic, participative and protagonistic society if a total divorce exists between the formal constitution, the real constitution and democracy as related to women.
