FUNCIONES DEL MARCADOR DISCURSIVO PUES EN EL HABLA DE MEDELLíN, COLOMBIA

current research on discourse markers centers on the description of particular markers or groups of markers, rather than on their classification. this article defines the semantic-pragmatic meaning and the frequency of occurrence for each one of the functions of the discourse marker pues. this description took into account other research on this marker in order to establish the functions found in the specialized literature and to use them as reference for the analysis. the occurrence sample of the discourse marker pues was taken from the preseea-medellín corpus. seven functions were found for this marker in that speech community, of which one was not registered in the reviewed literature. thus, the article contributes to the expansion of the description of this marker in spanish in general and opens up new possibilities for further research on the use of the discourse marker pues.
