Abstract:

to improve education, you have to reach to the conducting element of the classroom, the teacher, and to what is required, related to his knowledge and teaching skills. most of the proposals to improve education, don't go this far. here we describe a research project with two main purposes: to be able determine the teacher's pedagogical and mathematical knowledge for teaching at the elementary school and to advance an efficient method to bring about its development. for this, we designed workshops, centered on the knowledge needed in the teacher's practice, in which the teachers were made to reflect upon what is missing in their practice and was motivated to acquire it. the results of the research showed areas of teachers' knowledge which are deficient and must be reinforced in general.
