Abstract:

the aim of this research is to characterize the way how pre-service primary teachers instrumentalize the meanings of addition and subtraction word problems for the planning of teaching. the analysis of their contributions in an online discussion shows different ways to use the meanings and highlights the difficulties inherent in establishing relationships between the types of problems and mathematical thinking of children. finally, we discuss various factors that seem to influence on the instrumentalization of information in an online interactive context as a feature of learning the knowledge needed to teach mathematics in primary school.
