video is considered as a very useful teaching aid in medical sciences. taking into account this statement, a documentary review was made to detail the general characteristics of this teaching aid and the need of evolving into more interactive forms. some antecedents of this topic and the experience of the cuban medical education program in and out of the country were quoted. the use of digital versatile disk technology to support the new video modality as a teaching aid was suggested.
