after an introduction to the issues involved in the creation of the early happenings and later activities, kaprow reflects on the act of breathing. "such consciousness about what we do and feel each day, it's relation to other's experience and to nature around us" becomes the "performance of living" that the title suggests. later, the author presents a sketch for a "possible breathing piece".
