Descentralizacion fiscal y eficiencia tecnica del sector publico: los casos de la educacion y la saludKeywords: fiscal decentralisation, data envelopment analysis, tobit model. Abstract: it has been argued that, in order to deal with the various forms of fiscal mismanagement which are very often found in the public sector of developing and developed countries alike, fiscal decentralisation (df) may help to get things better. by grouping a number of performance indicators in the areas of health and education for a sample of countries, this research uses data envelopment analysis (dea) to cope with the multi-target nature of government. in a second stage, dea technical efficiency scores are taken as explained variables in the estimation of a tobit model in order to control for some "environmental variables, of which one of them is the degree of df. even if we control such variables, df appears to have a positive and significant effect in favour of government's technical efficiency.
