The increasing demand for sustainable construction materials has encouraged development of hempcrete, a bio-based composite well known for its environmental benefits, thermal insulation properties, and carbon sequestration potential. Despite its numerous advantages, the hempcrete industry faces challenges that hinder widespread adoption, including regulatory constraints, scalability limitations, and incomplete integration into mainstream building codes. The material is currently classified as a non-load-bearing component, limiting its structural applications. One objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of the hempcrete industry, highlighting key companies involved in material innovation, product development, and construction applications so that one can better understand the state of the technology for practical application and identification of the potentials for growth and widespread use. In particular, exploring the opportunities and barriers associated with hempcrete adoption helps emphasize its potential to contribute to global carbon reduction goals and sustainable building initiatives. The discussion underscores the necessity of regulatory support, investment in research and development, and industry collaboration to facilitate large-scale implementation. By examining leading hempcrete companies and their contributions, this study highlights the material/technology transformative potential in the construction sector, exploring for a more resilient and environmentally responsible built environment.
