基于语料库的葛浩文翻译主体性研究——以《一句顶一万句》为例

Abstract:
刘震云于2006年发表的长篇小说《一句顶一万句》是一部优秀的文学作品,通过不断重复的叙事语言勾勒形象。但对于这部作品的翻译研究目前还比较少。本文基于自建语料库,对《一句顶一万句》葛浩文英译本中翻译现象和葛浩文的翻译主体性进行了研究。研究发现以下三点:一是《一句顶一万句》的标准类符形符比低于他其他的翻译作品,且英汉文字量比例低于标准值,这说明在这部小说中葛氏运用的词汇丰富程度不高、语言表达较为简洁、翻译不足量、句子简短。二是在中文平均句长增加的同时,英文平均句长没有显著增加,葛在该文中没有如他翻译莫言小说一样进行大量的合译。三是通过检索报道动词频率最高的搭配,发现葛浩文对叙事话语的还原基本符合小说原文的行文特征,且使用种类丰富。综合以上三点,葛氏翻译《一句顶一万句》基本忠实原文,且有独特性。
Liu Zhenyun’s novel Someone To Talk To, published in 2006, is an excellent literary work that outlines images through a constantly repeated narrative language. However, there are relatively few translation studies on this work. Based on a self-constructed corpus, this paper investigates the translation phenomenon and Goldblatt’s translation subjectivity in the English translation of Someone To Talk To. The study finds the following three points: First, the standard Type-Token Ratio is lower than that of his other translations, and the ratio of English-Chinese text volume is lower than the standard value, which indicates that in this novel Ge employs a less rich vocabulary, a more concise linguistic expression, an insufficient amount of translations, and shorter sentences. Secondly, while the average sentence length in Chinese increases, the average sentence length in English does not increase significantly, and Ge did not make a large number of combined translations in that text as he did in his translation of Mo Yan’s novel. Third, by searching for the collocations with the highest frequency of reported verbs, it is found that Goldblatt’s reduction of narrative discourse is basically in line with the line features of the original novel and is rich in variety of use. Summarizing these three points, Ge’s translation of Someone To Talk To is basically faithful to the original text and unique.
