Background: A macular hole is a full-thickness retinal defect in the central macula. It is believed to be caused by vitreoretinal mechanical forces and is described as a traumatic macular hole if trauma causes these forces. CaseReport: We describe a case of a traumatic macular hole in a 12-year-old boy after blunt trauma with a football in the right eye. The patient was followed up regularly with serial OCT, showing closure of the macular hole without intervention. Conclusion: Observation of a paediatric traumatic macular hole is a viable initial treatment option. Serial OCT imaging was useful in observing the natural history and mechanism behind spontaneous closure in this case.
