The 2023 Chongqing High School Entrance Examination has witnessed significant reforms in its English section. Specifically, multiple-choice questions have been replaced with grammar fill-in-the-blank questions, a phonetic recognition segment has been added to the listening part, and prompt words are provided for short passage fill-in-the-blank questions. These changes require candidates to possess diversified thinking patterns and a solid grasp of grammar. This article takes Paper A as the research object and analyzes it from two aspects: the basic situation of the test paper and the characteristics of the questions. The conclusion indicates that the test paper comprehensively and thoroughly examines students’ English proficiency, incorporating moral education elements. Based on curriculum standards, the test paper facilitates the connection between teaching and examination; relying on contexts, it infiltrates discipline-based education; and guided by competencies, it highlights the assessment of abilities. Through in-depth analysis of the test paper, this article provides strategic guidance for preparing for the English section of the Chongqing High School Entrance Examination.
