Art therapy, increasingly recognized as a valuable intervention for mental health conditions, is gaining momentum, especially in developed countries. This narrative review synthesizes current literature on art therapy’s efficacy across diverse populations, including older adults, war veterans, and prison inmates. The findings underscore art therapy’s potential to improve mental health outcomes through non-verbal, creative expression, particularly for those who struggle with conventional therapies. Importantly, this review highlights the growing support and integration of art therapy within healthcare systems in developed nations, providing reassurance about its acceptance despite barriers such as accessibility, cost, and societal stigma. The future of art therapy lies in rigorous, large-scale studies that will establish its long-term efficacy and unravel its population-specific benefits. The unique approach and therapeutic impact of art therapy support its further integration into mainstream mental health services, offering reassurance about its future.
