Abstract:

Traditional expressive writing means inviting participants to engage in free writing without providing any feedback. In subsequent research and applications, researchers gradually combined expressive writing with different psychotherapeutic theories or various variables to conduct structured expressive writing or thematic writing. This has made expressive writing more targeted. Based on introducing the possible mechanisms of expressive writing, this paper aims to integrate theories such as psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, existential psychotherapy, and positive psychotherapy, and propose a more flexible expressive writing intervention plan. This is to assist people in applying expressive writing to the self-help and helping-others processes in psychological counseling, thereby enhancing people’s mental health.
