Abstract:

As a kind of language expression that penetrates into people’s daily life, euphemism is a common phenomenon in human language, and is an important means for people to coordinate interpersonal relationships and achieve harmonious and effective communication in the process of language use, which plays an important role in doctor-patient dialogues. The use of euphemisms in doctor-patient dialogues can help alleviate the doctor-patient relationship, promote the treatment of patients, and reduce the generation of doctor-patient disputes. This paper will apply the theory of multimodal discourse and take the doctor-patient dialogue in the first season of the Korean drama “Hospital Playlist” as a case study. Through the multimodal analysis of euphemism in doctor-patient dialogue, this paper attempts to explore how euphemism plays a role in the actual doctor-patient communication and explore the necessity of multimodal discourse analysis entering the multidisciplinary field.
