|
Abstract:
The development of French women’s right to education is a long and arduous process. By reviewing the history of women’s right to education in France, this paper reveals the important milestones in its development. First, the paper introduces the Education Act of 1880, which for the first time officially recognized the right of women to education. Subsequently, the General Education Act of 1902 included girls’ education in the French education system. However, for most of the 20th century, girls’ education was still limited by sexism and stereotypes. Until the 1970s, France began to promote gender equality and the development of girls’ education, through a series of laws and policies to eliminate gender discrimination. The Equal Opportunities and Equal Treatment Act 2000 reaffirmed women’s equal rights in the field of education. More recently, the Education Bill of 2019 further emphasized the importance of prohibiting gender discrimination against girls. However, there are still problems such as gender bias, gender-based violence and inadequate access to education. Therefore, the French government and all sectors of society need to continue their efforts to ensure that girls and women can truly enjoy equal rights to education. The research results of this paper are of great significance for understanding the development of women’s right to education in France and formulating relevant policies and measures.
