A Study on the Translation Ethics of the English Version of Memories of Peking: South Side StoriesDOI: 10.4236/oalib.1112727, PP. 1-10 Keywords: Chesterman, Translation Ethics, Memories of Peking: South Side Stories Abstract: On the basis of Chesterman’s model of translation ethics, this research analyzes the translators’ ethical tendency, translation strategies and translation effects in the English version of Memories of Peking: South Side Stories from five dimensions: ethics of representation, ethics of service, ethics of communication, norm-based ethics and ethics of commitment, and finds that translators strive to balance the author and the readers, the source language and the target language, as well as the source culture and the target culture in an effort to maximize the representation of the original text while adapting to the readers’ language and culture conventions, thus achieving cross-cultural communication. This research is conducted in the hope of enriching the relevant translation studies on Memories of Peking: South Side Stories and further motivating Chinese literature to spread to the world.
