The rapid development of technology and technological innovation have continuously given rise to a series of new media forms, such as smartphones, social media, short video platforms, etc. These emerging communication tools have profoundly changed the way people communicate and obtain information and have also brought unprecedented convenience and richness to society. However, for the special group of elderly people, while exposure to new media brings many conveniences and pleasures, it also comes with negative impacts that cannot be ignored. This article aims to explore the dual impact of new media exposure on the mental health of the elderly and propose corresponding solutions based on this in order to help the elderly better enjoy their later years and maintain a positive attitude.
