Subtitle translation, as a sub-category within the vast realm of translation, facilitates audiences in watching foreign films by striving to achieve the closest possible effect to the original text, thereby bridging the gap for viewers to comprehend the original information and simultaneously immersing them in the charm of diverse cultures. The sitcom “The Neighborhood” revolves around the story of a white family, the Daves, who move into a predominantly black neighborhood, and has garnered widespread popularity among audiences for its humor and wit. This paper takes the subtitle corpus of “The Neighborhood” translated by YYeTs Subtitle Group as the research object, guided by the theory of Skopos, to specifically analyze the application of Skopos theory in film and television subtitle translation. Through practical translation examples from the first season of the show, it discusses the translation strategies, methods, and techniques employed in the process of subtitle translation. It aims to provide effective translation suggestions, enhance the quality of subtitle translation, and promote the development of audience-oriented film and television subtitle translation.
