Abstract:

The concepts of “field”, “habitus” and “capital” in French sociologist Bourdieu’s cultural production theory have been widely used in translation studies, but their scope is still mainly limited to translation studies, and they are not widely used in interpretation studies. Community interpretation scenarios are usually composed of interpreters, agency representatives and disadvantaged parties. As an important “intermediary”, interpreters determine the delivery of demands of all parties and the balance of the field, which has profound sociological research value. This paper explains the basic concepts of Bourdieu’s sociology of translation, illustrates the feasibility of applying it to the study of community interpreting, explores the “field”, “habitus” and “capital” in community interpreting, and puts forward targeted development suggestions for community interpreters, so as to realize the co-construction of the role of community interpreters from multiple perspectives.
