情态系统视角下布罗迪小姐性格的“两面性”
Miss Brodie’s Dual Personality from the Perspective of Modality System

《布罗迪小姐的青春》是缪丽尔·斯帕克的代表作之一，其后现代叙述技巧、矛盾的人物形象、叙事伦理受到了众多学者的关注，而从情态系统出发分析该小说人物关系与形象的研究却不多。文章基于系统功能语言学的情态系统，对小说第一章进行了情态量值、类别和取向的分析，发现了布罗迪小姐常用中高量值、意愿义务、显性主观的情态表达，揭示了其性格的“两面性”特征。
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, the masterpiece of Muriel Spark, has attracted considerable attention from scholars for its postmodern narrative techniques, contradictory characters and narrative ethics. However, few studies delve into the images and relationships of characters through a modality system. Drawing from the modality system of systemic functional linguistics, this article investigates the value, type and orientation of modalities in the first chapter of the novel. It is found that Miss Brodie’s dual personality is manifested through her frequent use of modalities characterizing with median and high values, obligational and inclinational types, as well as explicit subjective orientations.
