Gramsci’s expansion of the concept of civil society has led to a new understanding of the Western social revolution. The theory of civil society has important implications for social governance. This theory is both an inheritance and a development of Marxist theory and the philosophers’ theories on civil society before it, and it has also had a profound impact on the fields of critical theory, cultural studies, post-structuralism, post-colonial theory, and social movement analysis. Looking back at its theoretical connotations is of great theoretical significance for reflecting on the new changes in the power relations of the modern capitalist state and the class structure of civil society.
