On the Labyrinth Narrative in Nabokov’s Pale Fire

《微暗的火》是纳博科夫形式上最为独特的一部作品。文章从迷宫叙事的角度出发，聚焦文本结构对分岔路、节点、死胡同等迷宫要素的模仿，分析小说外在形式与内在主题之间的关联。纳博科夫通过碎片化叙事和不可靠叙述造就迷宫结构，又通过设置参照物引导读者在文本迷宫内部游走与兜绕，最终以谢德的死亡完成了闭环式迷宫的构建，而死亡又以其多向的隐喻意涵隐秘地导向小说主题的阐发，即对彼岸世界的不懈追求。
Pale Fire is Vladimir Nabokov’s most formally innovative novel. From the perspective of the labyrinth narrative, this paper aims to analyze the relationship between the external form and internal theme by focusing on the textual structure’s imitation of labyrinth elements such as forking paths, nodes, and dead ends. Nabokov builds the labyrinth structure through fragmented narrative and unreliable narration, guides the readers to walk and circle in the labyrinth text through the pre-set reference objects, and finally completes the circular labyrinth with Shade’s death, which, with its multi-directional metaphorical connotation, leads to the exposition of the novel’s theme, namely, the relentless pursuit of the otherworld.
