The Whistle—An E-C Translation Practice Report of The Whistle

本实践报告以忠实通顺美为基本翻译规则，以《The Whistle》英译汉文本为案例，分析了本次翻译项目中所遵循的翻译规范与翻译策略。《The Whistle》以悲惨、穷苦为基调，作者文笔平实，并刻意隐藏写作痕迹。本报告以文本信息为基础，结合情感基调、作者的写作风格与个人的翻译风格，从用词用句以及风格统一的角度进行了详细的分析。通过分析，译者发现翻译要符合中文表达规范的同时传递原文本同样的情感和信息记忆，并要与原文本的写作风格一致，因此在翻译过程中可通过句式转化或表达方式的转化以重现原文本的表达、节奏与风格。
This report examines the basic translation norm of “Faithfulness, Fluency and Beauty” in translating The Whistle from English to Chinese as a case study and analyzes the translation norms and strategies followed in this translation project. The Whistle is based on misery and poverty, and the author’s writing is plain and deliberately hides the traces of writing. Based on the textual information, combining with the emotional tone, the author’s writing style, and his personal translation style, this report provides a detailed analysis from the perspective of word choice and style unity. Through analysis, the translator found that the translation should conform to the Chinese expression norms while conveying the same emotions and information as the original text and should be consistent with the writing style of the original text. Therefore, the expression, rhythm and style of the original text can be reproduced through sentence transformation or expression transformation in the process of retranslation.
