Abstract:

Objective: To explore the role of middle school students’ pro-social behavior in the reciprocal relationship between psychological difficulties and social problem-solving skills. Methods: A survey was conducted using Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, and the Social Problem-Solving Ability Questionnaire among 1201 junior high school students from grades 1 to 3. Results: Female junior high school students scored significantly lower in emotional symptoms compared to males. In family life, non-only children exhibited significantly higher conduct problems and total difficulty scores than only children. Grade level was identified as a crucial demographic variable influencing the physical and mental health of junior high school students. Psychological difficulties indirectly affected social problem-solving skills through the mediation of pro-social behavior. Conclusion: The social problem-solving skills of junior high school students are closely related to their mental health. Therefore, fostering their pro-social behavior is crucial for effectively enhancing their social problem-solving skills.
