|
Abstract:
Aggressive behavior may cause serious consequences to society and public health. It is found that the dysfunction of the neural circuit responsible for emotion regulation will increase the risk of impulsive aggressive behavior. Conversely, if individuals suffer from aggressive psychosis, impairments in the function of neural circuits responsible for emotional regulation can be found. Sleep plays an important role in an individual’s physical and mental health. Subjective perception of sleep quality rather than sleep quantity is of great significance in terms of cognition and behavior. Sleep problems such as sleep debt, sleep deprivation or insomnia can affect cognitive ability, emotional state and overall mental health. The correlation between insufficient sleep and aggressive behavior has been verified and supported by many studies. Although the causal relationship between the two needs further systematic research, the treatment of sleep problems may be an effective treatment plan to reduce aggressive behavior and prevent crime. This paper reviews the existing literature on the relationship between sleep and aggressive behavior and its neural mechanism.
