|
Abstract:
Episodic simulation is the mental ability to vividly visualize specific experiences in time and space. Some studies have found that the ability of episodic simulation can be used to promote prosocial behavior. The participants’ willingness to help increased after they imagined a helping situation. This finding reveals an unconsidered mechanism for promoting prosocial behavior. In this paper, we review the existing research on the promotion of prosocial behavior by episodic simulation, an-alyze the main factors affecting episodic simulation, and raises open questions to be addressed. We hope to provide a new perspective for promoting prosocial behavior research.
