功能对等理论视角下文化负载词的翻译策略研究——以《边城》英译为例
Translation Strategies of Culture-Loaded Words from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory—Taking the English Version of the Border Town as an Example

《边城》是沈从文的代表作之一。该小说背景设定在20世纪30年代的川湘交界地带的茶山小镇，以清新优美的文笔风格生动描绘了湘西地区人民朴素的生活和壮丽的自然景色，同时栩栩如生地刻画了当地居民的形象。本文以奈达功能对等理论为视角，研究文化负载词在英语翻译中的策略。它旨在深入理解和分析文化负载词的内涵，探讨翻译过程中译者采用的策略，如何在保持原文内涵的同时成功在译文中再现这些文化负载词，以及将这些翻译策略扩展到其他中国乡土文学的英译本的可能性。
The Border Town is one of Shen Congwen’s masterpieces. Set in the 1930s in Chashan, a small town on the border of the river and Hunan, the novel vividly depicts the simple life of the people of West-ern Hunan and the magnificent natural scenery in a fresh and beautiful style. Simultaneously, it vividly portrays the image of the residents. This thesis studies the strategies of culture-loaded words in English translation from the perspective of Nida’s functional equivalence theory. It aims to further understand and analyze the connotations of culture-loaded words, explore the strategies employed by translators in the translation process, and investigate how to successfully reproduce these culture-loaded words in the translated text while preserving the connotations of the original text. Additionally, this study explores the possibility of applying these translation strategies to oth-er English versions of Chinese vernacular literature.
