This article explores the close connection between cultural identity and multicultural coexistence and the challenges faced by multicultural coexistence, emphasizing the shaping, adjustment, and evolution of cultural identity in a multicultural society. Cultural identity is not only affected by the multicultural environment, but also has an important impact on the individual’s social identity. Social mechanisms such as cultural exchange, cultural conflict, and cultural integration play a key role in shaping cultural identity. However, multicultural coexistence also brings about the diversity and dilemma of cultural identity, which may lead to individual identity confusion and conflict. To address these challenges, this article proposes a series of strategies, including intercultural education, developing inclusive policies, promoting cultural diversity, balancing cultural exchange and cultural integration, intercultural communication training, and social awareness promotion. The implementation of these strategies can help promote the harmony and co-prosperity of cultural identity and multicultural coexistence, and provide a solid foundation for social progress and development.
