宁波市公示语翻译问题与对策研究
Research on the English Translation of Public Signs in Ningbo: Problems and Solutions

宁波作为历史文化名城，中国东南沿海重要的港口城市，享有“书藏古今，港通天下”的美誉，对外开放程度高。本文受尤金？奈达的功能对等理论启发，通过对宁波市的公示语翻译进行实地考察，从词语和句法两个层面入手，来剖析该市公示语汉英翻译所存在的问题。与此同时，笔者基于对调查的总结和分析，采用增译、改译和意译等不同翻译策略提出建议译文和翻译策略。以此树立良好的城市文化形象，推动“甬”文化外宣，促进宁波的国际化进程，也为全国各地的公示语翻译规范化提供相关参考。
As a famous historical and cultural city and an important port city on the southeast coast of China, Ningbo enjoys the reputation of “a city of culture and a gateway to the world”, and has a high degree of openness to the outside world. Inspired by Eugene A. Nida’s theory of functional equivalence, this paper analyzes the problems in the Chinese-English public signs translation in Ningbo from the lev-els of vocabulary and syntax, by way of field investigation. At the same time, based on the summary and analysis of the investigation, the author proposes translations strategies using different tech-niques such as addition, reinterpretation and paraphrasing. In this way, we can establish a good cultural image of the city, give impetus to the promotion and publicity of “Ningbo” culture, promote the internationalization process of Ningbo and also provide relevant references for the standardiza-tion of public signs translation throughout the country.
