叶天士基于《黄帝内经》“外风”思想，汲取前贤经验，针对中风病机，提出“阳化内风”之中风理论。在中风辨治过程中，灵活运用益肝补肾、息风潜阳之法，并参合络病理论，创诸和络通络之法，临证重视合于人形、取法四时、制化五行、久病及络、中风先兆，灵活运用内经理论，形成了叶天士辨治中风之独特思想，对后人辨治中风之证影响深渊。
