|
Abstract:
Socrates, the most influential philosopher of ancient Greece, whose pleas in court revealed the flaws of Greek city-state democracy: A group of ignorant people to determine the fate of a philo-sopher, in order to demonstrate the Greek democracy and justice, which is doomed to failure. “The Apology” records the entire process by which Socrates defended himself in court but was eventually convicted. This text contains his criticism of the democratic system of Athens, which boasted freedom and democracy. The paper hopes to find out the flaws in the Athenian city-state democratic system through the analysis of “The Apology”, and to provide some reference for the construction and improvement of our country’s current democratic system.
