Abstract:

Both procrastination and intertemporal choice belong to the domain of temporal cognition and decision-making. Both of them have similar neural basis and are closely related to cognitive con-trol network and anticipation imagination network. The difference between the two is that pro-crastination is more related to the emotion regulation network, while intertemporal choice is more related to the value assessment network. The core motivation may be different when indi-viduals make the decision of procrastination or intertemporal choice, and procrastination is more concerned with the avoidance of negative emotion, which is the motive of avoidance. Intertemporal choice focuses more on how to maximize the benefits of reward, out of proximity motivation.
