Abstract:

In response to the pandemic’s existential crisis, existential psychologists are revisiting the importance of self-transcendence. Chinese philosophy contains rich ideas of self-transcendence, which are different from those of the west and can provide ideas for individuals to reshape the meaning in life. This study aimed to explore the mediating effect of symbolic immortality on the relationship between self-transcendence and meaning in life. Through cross-sectional study and diary study, the results showed that mediating effect of symbolic immortality is valid both within and between individuals. The discussion section explored the cultural differences and prospects of the concept of self-transcendence.
