|
Abstract:
bjective: To examine the influence of family “care” and national “identity” on the development of self-esteem in adolescents. Methods: A 10-month longitudinal study was conducted on 997 first-grade junior middle school students using the Rosenberg self-esteem inventory, the parental care questionnaire, and the national identity questionnaire. Results: Both parental care and national identity in the first year positively predicted self-esteem in the second year; the interaction of parental care and national identity in the first year negatively predicted self-esteem in the second year. Conclusion: The combined effect of family “care” and national “identity” on adolescents’ self-esteem development is a “mutual compensation” model.
