Abstract:

This study explores the relationship between guilt, self-control and aggressive behavior and the mediating role of self-control. College students and postgraduates in universities and colleges across the country were selected as subjects. Guilt questionnaire, self-control scale and Reactive-Proactive Aggression Questionnaire (RPQ) were used for online testing, and 330 effective questionnaires were collected. The results showed that: 1) Guilt was positively correlated with self-control, and negatively correlated with active aggression, reactive aggression and total aggression; there was a significant negative correlation between self-control and proactive aggression, reactive aggression and total aggression. 2) Self-control has an incomplete mediating effect between guilt and aggressive behavior, that is, guilt can directly affect aggressive behavior, or indirectly affect aggressive behavior through self-control. This study shows that guilt and self- control play an important role in young people’s aggressive behavior. It can be used to improve young people’s self-control ability and rational use of guilt’s repair effect to intervene aggressive behavior.
