Abstract:

Thyroid hormone is essential for normal growth and development of the body. The kidney is not only involved in the metabolism and clearance of thyroid hormone but is also an important target organ for the action of thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormones affect renal function by affecting renal growth and development, hemodynamics, glomerular filtration rate, and the balance of water and electrolyte metabolism. Kidney disease can also cause thyroid dysfunction. Clarifying the relation-ship between thyroid hormone and renal function has important clinical significance for the diag-nosis and treatment of renal disease.
