Gender Bias and Stereotypes in English Example Sentences—Taking Linguistic Academic Journals as Example

为探究性别相关问题在语言学领域的现状，本研究以2020年版北大《中文核心期刊要目总览》中收录的15种外国语言类核心期刊为研究材料，选取2018年至2021年间发表的期刊例句，将Macaulay和Brice等人的性别研究理论与统计学、问卷调查、深度访谈等方法结合，总结语言学期刊中例句的性别歧视和刻板印象现象。结果表明，国内语言学期刊在例句选择上存在显著的性别偏见，在语句构建时偏向于男性表述，男性以更为广泛和多样的方式在例句中被塑造，而女性被代表的方式则更有限。
To explore the current situation of gender-related issues in linguistics, this paper uses quantita-tive and qualitative analysis to summarize the sexism and gender stereotypes of example sen-tences in linguistic journals based on the theories and findings from the prior studies of Macaulay and Brice and Pabst et al. Statistics, questionnaire survey, and in-depth interviews are applied to analyze the example sentences, which are collected from 15 foreign language core journals included in the 2020 edition of A Guide to the Core Journal of China. The result reveals that there is a significant gender bias in the selection of example sentences in Chinese linguistic journals: The majority of constructed example sentences are biased toward male-gendered. In the example sentences, men are being shaped in a wider variety of ways, while women are represented in more limited ways.
