India pays more and more attention to the status and role of the Indian Ocean. As an important part of its maritime strategy, the southbound policy has been actively promoted. As small island states in the Indian Ocean are strategically important, India regards them as an important fulcrum of its southward policy, so it actively develops its relations with them. India hopes to realize its ambition to dominate the Indian Ocean and increase its presence in the region. To this end, It develops its relations with India through multiple means, including political, economic, military and cultural, in an attempt to enhance India’s influence and help realize its great power ambitions.
