Abstract:

Based on social identity theory and the common ingroup identity model, the relationship between subgroup identity, common ingroup identity and psychological compatibility was explored. In this study, 342 college students were recruited and their subgroup identity, common ingroup identity, and psychological compatibility were measured using questionnaires, and the analysis of the mediating effects was conducted using PROCESS. The results found that common ingroup identity had a direct effect on psychological compatibility after controlling the demographic variables, and it was a mediating variable of subgroup identity for psychological compatibility of groups. The study refines the common ingroup identity model and also provides an empirical basis for the establishment of positive inter-group relationships and the construction of “community”.
