Abstract:

Methionine is an essential amino acid for human that plays critical roles in the syntheses of many important biological molecules including protein. Recent studies have demonstrated that dietary methionine restriction can prolong lifespan, improve metabolic heath, prevent and postpone the development of some age-related chronic diseases in various model organisms. In this review, we summarized the recent progression of researches regarding the health promotion effects of dietary methionine restriction and the underlying mechanism, and expected to provide clues for further research and application.
