“颜”外之“译”——海事英语颜色词的汉译方法与技巧

Abstract:

颜色词在海事英语中十分普遍，且多被赋予特殊意义。为探究海事英语颜色词的准确汉译，本文以认知语言学的隐喻和转喻理论为视角，对实例进行分析，结果表明这些颜色词具有隐喻和转喻特征。基于析出的特征，结合海事领域专业知识，探讨不同类型海事英语颜色词相应的汉译方法与技巧，包括颜色对等直译、文化对等意译、功能对等意译、所指对等意译、约定俗成译法等翻译方法以及引申法、推演法、增译法等翻译技巧，以期为海事英语以及其他专业领域英语中颜色词的翻译和研究提供借鉴。
In view of the pervasiveness and specific meanings of color words in maritime English, this paper aims to explore their accurate Chinese version with metaphor and metonymy theories. Through example analysis of the words, the finding shows that the words have the characteristics related to metaphor and metonymy. And then, according to the characteristics found and maritime knowledge, this paper tries to explore the translation methods and techniques accordingly, including such methods as literal translation of words with equal color meaning, free translation of words with cultural background, function, the signified objective, translation as usage and such techniques as extension, deduction and amplification. It is expected that this research provides references for translators in maritime field and other fields to do the translation and research of color words.
