An Evaluation on Comprehensive Indonesian-English Dictionary by A. M. Stevens and A. Ed. Schmidgall-Tellings

Abstract Almost all learners of English as an additional language need a bilingual dictionary. By and large, the dictionary is used to find out meanings of words, though today’s modern dictionaries serve more than that particular function. In Indonesia, there have been several widely-known and used bilingual dictionaries aimed for different profiles of target users like learners or practitioners. This article evaluated the latest edition of the Comprehensive Indonesian English Dictionary by Stevens and Schmidgall-Tellings. The purpose of the brief analysis is to give some contribution on the revision of the dictionary’s future edition in particular and other Indonesian-English dictionaries in general. It was found that besides the many advantages the dictionary provides to its readers, there have been several aspects that need revisions
