Relations Between Ruling and Local Press During the Period of May 27th: Demokrat Türkiye Newspaper (？anl？urfa ？？in Hizmet Newspaper)

This study discusses the relationship of the ruling power and local press through the example of the daily Demokrat Türkiye (？anl？urfa ？？in Hizmet) Gazetesi during 27 May Period. Founded on 5 February 1959 with the name of Demokrat Türkiye (Democra tic Turkey) and published non stop since then, ？anl？urfa ？？in Hizmet Gazetesi is ？anl？urfa’s oldest daily in this respect. How the daily Demokrat Türkiye (？anl？urfa ？？in Hizmet) Gazetesi facing the 27 May military coup one year after its start reacted against the coup as an example of local pres and how it was influenced hold the main question of this study.It is based on the interviews with the owner of the daily, ？mer Okutan, and the discourse analysis of the newspaper news of the period in the framework of authority media theories. This study claims that the period of 27 May in spite of having liberal characteristics in the scale of general press was dominantly authoritarian in the scale of local press
