DETERM?NATION THE TENDENCY OF THE NURSES TO MAKE MED?CAL M?STAKEKeywords: T?bbi hata,hem?ire,t?bbi hata e?ilimi Abstract: INTRODUCTION: The research was carried out to determine the tendency of the nurses to make a medical mistake and the factors that might affect it. METHODS: The descriptive and sectional study was carried out with 434 nurses who accepted to participate in a study in a public hospital and a university hospital in a province in the west between October 2016 and April 2017. In order to collect the data “Medical Error Trend Scale in Nursing” and Personal ?nformation Form were used. The study was made by using percentiles Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests. RESULTS: The mean total score taken from the Medical Error Tendency Scale in Nursing was 230.30 ± 15.59, and the tendency of the nurses to make a medical mistake was found to be low. The lowest score of the nurses for the subscales was determined as “Falls” (22.89±2.57) and “Communication” (23.16±2.57) sub-dimension and the highest score was from the sub-dimension of “Drug and Transfusion Applications” (86.42±4.84). There was a statistically significant difference between the medical error tendency scores of the participants according to their educational status, manner of working and liking the profession (p<0.05) while there was no statistically significant difference between age, sex, marital status and medical error trend scores (p>0.05). DISCUSSION and CONCLUSION: As a result of the study, it was found that the level of tendency of nurses to medical errors was low, while the tendency of medical error of nurses who did not like their job was found to be significantly higher
