THE RELATION BETWEEN AMERICAN IMPERIALISM AND ‘TUTELAR SEEKING’ TRADITION IN THE 1940S’ TURKEY

The years of 1940s are an era which affected Turkish political and intellectual life significantly. Thus these years caused new imperialist forms in the international arena which stemmed from those significant social, political and economical conditions of the 2nd World War. These years are also an era which Turkish politicians, who stuck between two imperialist blocs, West (USA) and East (Russia), seeked carelessly and urgency a new direction that was contrary to national policies. First problematic of this study is that the mentioned-direction is a spiritual rebirth in the spirits of Turkish politicians as an extension of a historical custom of seeking a ‘protector’ inherited from the Ottomans to Turkey. This historical tradition will be analysed in the context of the first problematic. The second problematic is the essential conditions and interactions of that Turkish politicians’ seeking direction with the American imperialism which dictated to establish a new world order.
