Rhetoric theory had pedagogical and functional meanings such as persuasion techniques and elocution in Ancient Greece, where it was born. Also known as the Classical Rhetorical Tradition, rhetoric theory continued to be influential for a long time adopting the same approach in Ancient Greece. In the 20th century, the development of anti-positivism in social sciences and the increase in the number of language studies led to certain transformations in rhetoric theory in terms of both its meaning and field-related issues. This new trend then referred to as the New Rhetoric has generated researchers who transformed the meaning of rhetoric from persuasion techniques to identification. The New Rhetoric Tradition, which emphasizes the necessity to take into consideration the moment and the context in which rhetoric is produced, has caused rhetoric analyses to spread to wider fields. This study addresses the theorization phases and basic characteristics of participatory critical rhetoric approach which enables the examination of rhetoric in its natural environment through the use of qualitative research methods in the field of New Rhetoric
